Touch 24, 60 or 120 colours? Choose by how you'll use it

By the Rasmetak team4 min read

The short answer

Get the 24 (JD 4) to try markers, for a child or as a small gift, and the 60 (JD 8) if you'll colour every week — it's the best balance of price and range. Choose the 120 (JD 15) for architecture and design courses or if you want plenty of greys and skin tones; it also has the lowest price per pen: 12.5 piastres, against 13.3 piastres in the 60 and 16.7 piastres in the 24.

24, 60 and 120 colours side by side

All three boxes hold the same pen: an alcohol marker with two tips — a broad chisel for filling and a fine bullet for detail — and a cap that matches the ink and shows its colour code. What changes is the number of colours, the price and the case.

So which size suits you?

The 24: to try, for kids, as a small gift

If it's your first alcohol-marker set, or you're buying for a child who loves drawing, the 24 gives you the essential colours for JD 4. It has only a few shades of each colour, so blending and shading are a little limited.

The 60: the smart pick if you colour every week

A wide spread of light and dark shades lets you blend and shade without running out of colours. For cozy or Bobbie Goods-style colouring books, or a student who wants a set that lasts, the 60 is the best balance of price and range.

The 120: architecture, design and serious drawing

The most shades, including a full grey series and light skin tones — exactly what renders, portraits and anime call for. It also has the lowest price per pen (12.5 piastres). Every colour and its code is on the 120 colour chart.

You don't have to buy the biggest

Not sure you'll stick with it? Start with the 24 or the 60. A bigger box won't make a drawing better on its own — the right paper and working from light to dark matter more. See the paper guide.

Looking for 48 or 80 colours?

Not at the moment — we don't stock 48 or 80 colours (nor 36 or 168). We sell three sizes: 24, 60 and 120. If you were after a 48, the 60 covers it with room to spare for JD 8. If you wanted 80, the 120 gives you 40 more colours for JD 15.

What's in the 120: greys and skin tones

According to the 120 colour chart — the same codes that are printed on the caps — the box holds:

  • 15 greys in four families: cool (CG), warm (WG), blue (BG) and green (GG), from very light to dark.
  • Light skin and beige tones such as Skin White (131), Baby Skin Pink (133), Barely Beige (29) and Rose Beige (97).
  • A colourless blender (code 0) that softens edges and lightens colour.
  • Black (120) and three fluorescents (121, 122 and 123).

We haven't published code lists for the 24 and 60 yet, but the photos on each box's page show its caps and codes.

Save with a ready-made pack

If you want the markers with a book or paper, packs cost less than the pieces bought separately:

  • Cozy Mini Gift Pack: the 24 box and two colouring books (cozy and Bobbie Goods-style) for JD 8.5.
  • Cozy Starter 60 Pack: the 60 box, the same two books and a fineliner for JD 13.5.
  • Pro Pack: the 120 box, the A3 marker pad and three fineliners for JD 22.
  • Besties Pack: two 120 boxes and two fineliners for JD 31.

Orders of JD 30 or more ship free.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you sell 48 or 80 colours?

We currently stock three sizes only: 24, 60 and 120. The 60 covers what most people want from a 48, and the 120 has 40 more colours than an 80.

Does the 120 have greys and skin tones?

Yes. According to the colour chart it has 15 greys in four families (CG, WG, BG and GG), light skin tones such as Skin White (131) and Baby Skin Pink (133), and a colourless blender, code 0.

Does every pen have two tips?

Yes, in all three sizes: a broad chisel tip for filling large areas and a fine bullet tip for lines and detail.

Can I buy a single pen or a refill?

Not at the moment — we don't sell single pens or refill ink. If a pen arrives dry, our 30-day guarantee covers it.

Which box makes the best gift?

For a child or a small gift, the 24 (JD 4); for someone who colours a lot, the 60 (JD 8) or the Cozy Mini Gift Pack (JD 8.5) with two books. At checkout, tick “This order is a gift” and we'll send it with no prices inside.

Is the 24 suitable for children?

It suits older children, but the ink is alcohol-based and has a smell, so they should colour somewhere well ventilated, with an adult around.
